Religions of Nepal

By religion, Nepal is the only Hindu State in the world. In Nepal, the majority of the people are Hindus. Hinduism and Buddhism are the major religions of Nepal with 86.5% and 7.8% of the total population. Other religious followers include Muslims 3.5%, Christian 0.2% and other 2.0%.Co-religions are bound together by a sense of fellow feeling in their worship of common deities and joint celebration of many festivals belonging to either religion cult. Kumari, the Virgin Hindu Goddess, for instance, is selected from a Buddhist clan. There are Hindu temples and Buddhist shrines scattered all over the Kingdom of Nepal.

Hinduism:

Nepal is the only country in the world where state religion is Hinduism. The King of Nepal is venerated as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, usually called "Narayan". Nepal has some of the holiest places for Hindu pilgrimage.

Buddhism:

Buddhism started being a philosophical assumption and as a rule of ethnic conduct and not a religion in the Western world. In fact, it was the fruit of meditation of a personality named Gautam Siddhartha, and much later, the Buddha.The founder of the religion Gautam Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal. It is the ultimate Buddhist pilgrimage destination of the world's millions of devotees who follow the faiths of the Buddhism.Buddha was born on this spot around 544BC. The Indian Emperor identified this native site and erected a pillar, known as the "Ashokan Pillar". Thus, one can explore depths of Buddhism and spirituality in Lumbini.
