This is the expedition season and the best time for climbing the high peaks. At higher elevations over 5,000 meters the mountain views are excellent and the temperature remains quite moderate even at night. The high valleys north of the mountain ranges remain dry even during the summer rains and are a delightful destination with the pastures full of cattle and alpine flowers. Some of these trans-Himalayan areas can be reached by air, thus avoiding a long journey during the rainy season.
